Our extra-curricular highlights
Sport
Our school takes pride in its sporting talent, offering all students abundant opportunities to participate and compete in a wide range of sports.
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Each year, we proudly participate in Schools Spectacular, a culmination of a year's dedicated effort, where our students showcase their talents in the Aboriginal Dance Ensemble, Combined Dance Ensemble, Choir, and Band.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
The Heron Island Excursion gives our students the opportunity to marvel at the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef. The students participate in a number of activities including snorkelling, reef walks and research projects using the University of Queensland Heron Island Research Station facilities and equipment. Students have opportunities to see turtles laying, turtles hatching, swimming with sharks and rays or following a school of Parrot fish.
Career activities
Supporting students’ transition from school to work or further study is a priority at our school. We provide timetabled Careers lessons for Year 9 and 10 students to prepare them for this important step. Additionally, Year 11 and 12 students have opportunities to visit universities, TAFE institutions, and career expos. Year 9 and 10 students can also participate in TAFE taster programs and our Work Experience program, which each year helps many students secure employment, apprenticeships and traineeships.
